Jesus gave us life and transformation.
I look beyond it to the mountain, basking blue,
dark ink against dusk sky, ridge rising
from the electric glow of Highway 41,
lights of strip malls and suburban sprawl.
I say rising, though in fact the mountain has risen
and now crumbles, as it has been crumbling,
transforming, for hundreds of millions of years,
born by orogeny long before the birth of Christ,
longer still before he came to haunt these hills.
